In an ever changing environment of the status quo cannot remain. Technology, and hence the competition, is consistently improving. It is good due diligence for companies to benchmark their performance against the outside world.
As a consultant, I have a fresh view point of your business process that are untainted by the legacy of “this is the way it was always done.” This enables me to question the way things are and compare them to other ways. I don’t need to be an expert in your business to apply this approach. In fact not being an expert in your business makes me more effective at identifying improvement opportunities.
Process improvement techniques such as Six Sigma and Value Chain Mapping are effective methods of identifying and removing waste processes, or showing increased process efficiency resulting from improvements made.
