Many staff, many business functions, many processes, who is doing what, and who is not doing what?
A good question for larger companies. Ever get the feeling that some staff are there only because they have been for so long, or, some people seem so busy during the day but you have no idea what it is that keeps them busy?
When that happens then it is time to map out your business process. This gives you the opportunity to identify and remove the waste process, i.e. the process that are non value adding.
A brown-paper exercise, although back to basics, is an effective method used to clarify the necessary functions in your business, how they integrate with each other, and what staff roles should be. Its like a green field approach to an existing brown field, in order to identify the areas of improvement.
